Description

A modern twist on a holiday classic, this air fryer green bean casserole delivers all the creamy comfort and crispy topping of the original—made faster and fresher with the convenience of an air fryer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup or homemade mushroom sauce
  • 1/3 cup milk or cream (optional, if using condensed soup)
  • 1 cup French fried onions
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs or grated Parmesan (optional, for extra crunch)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 350°F for 2–3 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix blanched green beans with mushroom soup (and milk if needed), salt, and pepper.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a shallow air fryer-safe baking dish.
  4. Air fry for 8–10 minutes until the sauce is bubbling.
  5. Carefully remove the dish, sprinkle fried onions (mixed with breadcrumbs or Parmesan if desired) over the top.
  6. Return to air fryer and cook for an additional 3–5 minutes until the topping is golden and crisp.
  7. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh green beans for best texture; blanch before adding to the casserole.
  • Make the base ahead of time and refrigerate, then add topping and air fry when ready.
  • Choose a shallow dish that fits in your air fryer basket for even cooking.
  • Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 325°F for 4–5 minutes to restore crispness.
  • For mini servings, portion into ramekins before cooking—perfect for buffet-style meals.
