Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the apple cider, sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, a few at a time.
  6. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  7. Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar, if desired.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh apple cider.
  • Do not overcrowd the pot when frying the donuts.
  • If the donuts are browning too quickly, reduce the heat of the oil.
  • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature.
