- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the apple cider, sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, a few at a time.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly.
- Dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar, if desired.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, use fresh apple cider.
- Do not overcrowd the pot when frying the donuts.
- If the donuts are browning too quickly, reduce the heat of the oil.
- Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature.
