Description

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the diced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.
  3. Gently stir in the melted butter until the apple mixture is evenly coated.
  4. Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Using a 4-inch round cookie cutter or a knife, cut out circles from the puff pastry.
  6. Place a spoonful of the apple mixture in the center of half of the pastry circles.
  7. Brush the edges of the filled pastry circles with the beaten egg.
  8. Top with the remaining pastry circles and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  9. Brush the tops of the hand pies with the remaining egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  10. Cut a small slit in the top of each hand pie to allow steam to escape.
  11. Place the hand pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Let the hand pies cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.
