Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound mostaccioli pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook mostaccioli according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese.
  7. In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce.
  8. Layer half of the cooked mostaccioli, half of the ricotta mixture, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  9. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients, ending with mozzarella cheese.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  11. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use Italian sausage instead of ground beef.
  • Add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the meat sauce.
  • Use your favorite type of cheese for the topping.
