  • 68 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 box (14.1 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon milk or cream
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well.
  3. Line a 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust.
  4. Pour apple mixture into the crust.
  5. Dot with butter pieces.
  6. Cover with the second pie crust. Crimp edges to seal. Cut slits in the top crust to vent steam.
  7. Brush top crust with milk or cream. Sprinkle with sugar.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
