Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 box (14.1 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 tablespoon milk or cream
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well.
- Line a 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust.
- Pour apple mixture into the crust.
- Dot with butter pieces.
- Cover with the second pie crust. Crimp edges to seal. Cut slits in the top crust to vent steam.
- Brush top crust with milk or cream. Sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
- Let cool completely before serving.

- For a healthier version, use whole wheat flour and reduce the sugar.
- Add a streusel topping for extra flavor and texture.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
