- 1 package (14.1 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
- 6 cups thinly sliced peeled apples
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Unroll one pie crust and place on a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat.
- Spread apple mixture evenly over the crust on the baking sheet, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Dot the apple mixture with butter pieces.
- Unroll the second pie crust and gently place it over the apple mixture.
- Trim and crimp the edges to seal. Cut slits in the top crust to vent steam.
- Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, use parchment paper on the baking sheet.
- Adjust the amount of sugar based on the tartness of your apples.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the apple mixture to prevent browning.
