Enjoy a classic holiday side dish with this gluten-free green bean casserole. It’s a family favorite made easy and delicious.

- 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1/2 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
- 1 1/2 cups gluten-free chicken broth
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup gluten-free fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Blanch green beans in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a bowl, toss green beans with gluten-free flour, salt, and pepper.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and mushrooms and cook until softened, about 8 minutes.
- Stir in gluten-free chicken broth and milk. Bring to a simmer, then cook until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Add green beans to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Pour mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Melt remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and drizzle over the top.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Top with gluten-free fried onions and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a healthier version, use low-sodium chicken broth and fat-free milk.
- You can substitute fresh mushrooms with canned mushrooms, drained.
- If you don’t have gluten-free fried onions, you can make your own by frying thinly sliced onions in gluten-free flour.
