Description

Classic shepherd’s pie made with ground meat and topped with mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground meat
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown ground meat over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion and carrots to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in frozen peas, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish.
  6. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture. Dot with butter.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a layer of cheese between the meat mixture and mashed potatoes.
  • You can use ground lamb instead of ground meat for a more traditional shepherd’s pie.
