Description

A hearty and comforting dish featuring layers of cabbage and seasoned mince, simmered to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of cabbage, cored and shredded
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  3. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Layer half of the shredded cabbage over the meat sauce.
  6. Pour half of the meat sauce over the cabbage.
  7. Repeat layers with remaining cabbage and meat sauce.
  8. Cover the pot and simmer for 1-1.5 hours, or until the cabbage is tender.
  9. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can add other vegetables like carrots or bell peppers.
  • Adjust seasoning to your taste.
  • For a richer flavor, use beef broth instead of water.
