Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sourdough discard, unfed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract, then beat in the eggs one at a time.
  4. Gradually add the flour and sourdough discard, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
